The option of switching over to LED power tubes is not always easy. If you’d like to learn more about the differences between double ended tubes and single ended tubes as well as the overall experience for conversion, we can help you choose the best options! The process of outfitting your office with LEDs can be a confusing one. You’ll often be working alongside an electrician in order to replace fluorescent tube lighting with LEDs. Having a bit of knowledge about double ended tubes, single ended tubes and the types of power tubes can help you with the process of working with an electrician.
Single vs Double Ended
In a single ended power tube the neutral pins can be found on the same end of the tube where power is supplied. Single ended power tubes will require non-shunted sockets. Single ended tubes will require a socket which is non-shunted. The ballast from the current picture will also be removed to increase the efficiency of the light.
In double-ended the neutral and live bands will be located on the opposite sides of the tube making a dead end and live end. Tubes can be shunted or non-shunted.
Type A
The type A fixture is the easiest way that you can switch over from fluorescent to LED tubes. These tubes receive power from internal drivers and they are compatible with fluorescent ballasts. There is no need for rewiring and there’s no need to remove the ballasts for installation. These tubes are only double ended.
Type B
This is a direct wire system that will help you use internal drivers in a non-shunted socket. They can be single ended or double ended. The advantage to using type B tubes is they can save more energy by removing the ballast and reduce the chance of failure in the ballast powering your light by changing the power source.
