Harrogate is now a world-famous cycling location, ever since the Tour de France came to town in 2014. The atmosphere was incredible, the regions changed overnight and the people took the tour with open arms and smiles, typical of the Yorkshire folk. Green, flowery and gorgeous. 3 words that would describe this town and enough to give your imagination enough to go off. The town centre has a very long hill that is perfect for a final sprint. Around the town, there are tight country roads, varying degrees of short hills, long hills and magnificent parts of open roads. The Harrogate landscape is ideal for all involved. 2014 saw great dramas with the cycling teams and 5 years later, we all hope to see the same.
The race will finish in the Spa town of Harrogate, after the teams have sped through some of the smaller local towns such as Masham, Pateley Bridge, Ripon, Boroughbridge and the beautiful landscape of Nidderdale. A race that won’t fail to end on an exciting note. The 14km to the finish promises to entertain the crows, tight, steep and sharp turns are all waiting for those brave riders before they cross the finish line.

The UCI are now funded by some truly incredible investment figures. The goverment along woth UK sport are backing the world event with a cool £12m influx to ensure this event will be absolutely immense. With another £15m reportedly allocated to inspire and develop grass roots and entry level cycling facilites across the UK. Meaning this UCI event will leave a postive legacy and will inspire generations of cyclists in the future.
Harrogate isn’t really famous for its cycling past, more so for spring waters and holiday retreats in Victorian times. However, the history of Harrogate is certainly going to change and this beautiful Spa town will be known for its cycling events for years to come. Many people come here for a weekend break and a chance to see the Yorkshire dales, staying in Harrogate serviced apartments with the likes of Nightspace.co.uk and others alike. This place’s main historic background is definitely focussed on tourism but now, it will almost certainly have a place in the history books for providing us with the perfect cycling platform for the UCI world champions.
